Heading home

Tests all now complete, we're going back to Valdosta this afternoon. It's hard to believe it was only two weeks ago today that I had surgery - seems much longer. Since then, I have been sliced and diced and poked and prodded and stuck like a pin cushion.

The most surreal thing for us is how we've just been through all of this - same places, same experiences, same people - except now there's this role reversal, with ME being the patient. It seems to even be unnerving to a lot of the medical personnel up here that we've gotten to know so well. We're quite a novelty.

Our thoughts are turning to wigs and turbans and the like. Any thoughts or suggestions? My sister-in-law Pam suggested that I go ahead and cut my hair short before it starts falling out, to minimize the shock, which I think is a good idea.

I agree with your sister in law's thinking. I was convinced to shave my head prior to the first chemo by a friend who told me she could not stand finding her hair everywhere (on the pillow, etc.)
I have a Muslim neighbor who taught me how to do beautiful head wraps with scarves. She would even come over and 'dress' my head for special events. There are some special T-pins that make it easier, as well as learning which fabrics work best. Generally they need more 'teeth" like cotton or wool. I will find the pins and leave them on your door step. .

I am so sorry to hear that all this has happened! This IS taking togetherness to a whole new level. Has anyone told you about A Woman's Place at Northside Hospital? You can make an appointment and they will let you try on various wigs and scarves and show you how to use them and then you just buy the ones you want. They have all "grades" of wigs as I remember(I didn't get one). I have more information but why don't you just call them at 404-845-5125 and let them tell you about it.
You are in a whole different league from me and I doubt there is anything I can tell you but I'd be delighted to do anything I can -- just give me a call. Love, Gloria Oh, about the hair...I had mine cut short and not shaved(that comes soon enough!) and they suggested at the Woman's Place that I get a nightcap(yes, just like night before Christmas). That kept it off the pillow and the rest of the time it wasn't too bad, I just scooped it up and threw it in the trash. I'll be thinking about y'all and hoping to hear that things are going well.

I really like when people are expressing their opinion and thought. So I like the way you are writing
